From the president

Hello again and welcome to another jam packed semester with Curtin Volunteers! CV! is Australia's first and largest student run volunteering organisation, meaning that Curtin students are in prime position to take advantage of the many opportunities that we provide.

Many people ask me, "Why should I volunteer?"

There is no single answer to this question. Volunteering helps students to engage with the local community and to put faces and situations to the many issues that are reported daily in the popular media. It also gives students an excuse to step outside their comfort zone, to meet people from other disciplines and build social networks on campus. Finally, volunteering gives students an opportunity to enhance their educational experience whilst at Curtin. This may be through choosing a programme that fits in with a student's course of study. For example, in education, students may choose to volunteer in one of our many school based projects. Conversely, volunteering in a programme with a different focus to what volunteers study, helps add a completely different aspect to their degree and enhance their skill set and employability. This semester, through partnering with Curtin Career Centre, Curtin Volunteers! aims to enhance this aspect of the volunteering experience.

Of course on top of this volunteering is really good fun!

This semester the regular programmes are all up and running, and are better than ever before. From Kent St Konnect to Bentley Park there is a programme to suit everyone! As well as this there is a whole range of exciting new projects in the works for this semester, including notably the creation of a new CV! Environmental team, to help tackle issues of sustainability on campus and beyond.

Our brand new database is now up and running, and this will make keeping volunteers up to date with what's going on easier than ever. Also this semester, the management team will be developing a formal volunteering programme that will lead to recognition on your academic transcript, continuing with the theme of enhancing your employability.

Have a look around the website, see what you might like and let us know! CV! and other University Life services on campus aim to make the student experience at Curtin exceed far beyond the four walls of the classroom. So... get off your couch and get involved!
