Guidelines for Volunteering and Recognition on Student Academic Transcript

The University experience is an all encompassing one and includes many aspects outside of the traditional academic environment. One of the activities that not only facilitates student integration but is also at the core of the ethos of the university is serving the community through volunteering. The recognition of a volunteering contribution in an official sense is integral to highlighting the role of volunteering in the development of tangible and transferable skills. Curtin Volunteers! is the organisation on campus dedicated and committed to the delivery of these experiences. This document outlines the minimum requirements for official recognition - in the format of academic transcript notes - for volunteer activities undertaken.

The level of recognition will be in divided into three separate levels:

  1. Level One: CV! Active Volunteer.

This level covers involvement in a volunteer capacity in any one or more of the programmes or projects offered by Curtin Volunteers! A volunteer is deemed to have made an active volunteering contribution upon completion of at least 20 hours of volunteering per semester which will attract recognition of being an ‘active volunteer’. The 20 hours must be logged via email (see below for instructions) over the semester and be verified by the relevant director. Hours will need to be logged progressively over the semester with an effective expiry on hours volunteered three weeks post completion date (i.e. weekly logging is recommended).

Volunteers that do not meet the requirements can apply for recognition by special consideration to the President of Curtin Volunteers. These cases will be judged on merit against the backdrop of the CV! activities over the semester.  The decision by the President is final and there is no opportunity for appeal.

  2. Level Two: CV! Programme Management / Administration.

This category describes the involvement at a level above that of an active volunteer. Volunteers assuming a role in administrating either CV! teams or CV! operations at a non-Board level will be eligible for recognition as well as a formal reference from Curtin Volunteers! issued under the signature of the Curtin Volunteers! President.

Recognition is pending satisfactory performance in the role over the semester and subject to maintaining the status of an active volunteer.

  3. Level Three: CV! Executive Board Member

Deemed the highest calibre of volunteering offered in CV!; the role of a board member involves working in a team to strategically guide CV! in a direction congruent with the overall direction of both Curtin and its non-university partners.  Recognition of contributions at this level includes transcript notes, a personalised letter of achievements from the Director of Campus and Community Life and a small monetary stipend.

Awarding of these benefits is subject to satisfactory performance in the board position as determined by the President of CV! in conjunction with the Director of Campus and Community Life.
